HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Jean Tobler, who is not from the canton, receives permission to move to Bern. He starts working for the Kuentz pastry shop in Bern’s Marktgasse and when Mr. Kuentz falls ill, he takes over the business. As the location did not suit him, a few months later (1868) he set up his “Confiserie Spéciale” on the first floor of a new building on Mittelstrasse in the Länggasse district. In the beginning, Jean Tobler only made chocolate from semi-finished products which he bought from other well-known manufacturers.
