HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Early 1950s: On a farm in Katzenrüti near Rümlang ZH, Hans Meier, a cousin of Heinrich Zweifel senior, fried the first potato chips in a huge field kitchen pan. The processing of potatoes into chips was mainly done in converted household appliances. What was intended as a boost for the company’s own apple juice proved to be a customer hit right from the start. The experiment, which was viewed critically, turned out to be a promising idea for the future.
As early as 1958, the crispy chips were professionally launched under the Zweifel brand. The incomparable taste and the visionary fresh service, which travelled throughout Switzerland in eye-catching Zweifel buses from 1962 onwards, made the chips known and sought after everywhere in no time at all. Today Zweifel can look back on a success story spanning almost 60 years.
The Zweifel company has been in family ownership since its beginnings. As the real pioneer of chips in Switzerland, the Zweifel family and its employees have always used unconventional and innovative ideas to ensure that Zweifel Pomy-Chips AG plays a leading role in the league of top Swiss brands.
